What’s the secret sauce behind Carlos Alcaraz’s drop shot? Most players hit a backhand drop shot down the line, but the analytics show that will only win you the point 50% of the time…

Alcaraz, on the other hand, is hitting an inside-out forehand drop shot and winning the point an incredible 70% of the time…

Here’s one of the ways he does it:

Alcaraz gets into a crosscourt backhand-to-backhand rally with his opponent, and waits for an opportunity to run around his backhand and line up like he’s going to rip a forehand…

His opponent has to split steps backwards to give himself more time to cover either an inside-out or inside-in forehand…

So when Alcaraz instead hits an inside-out drop shot, his opponent is moving in the wrong direction, making it almost impossible to track down.
